August is the time for the benediction of the fruits at the church of Archangelos Michail while during the summer months another Panighyri feast honors the Virfin Mary at the Gonia monastery.

Kolymbari’s most important historical building is the Monastery of Gonia, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. This building dates back to the 13th century and is home to an interesting cemetery. The temple tells the story of several historical wars including World War II. The Ecclesiastical Academy of Greece is another great cultural sight. Kolymbari is also a good base from which you can explore other attractions in Chania such as the Archaeological Museum of Chania, the Byzantine Collection of Chania and the Folk and Maritime Museums. A boat ride to the north-eastern edge of Rodopou peninsula will reveal the ruins of the ancient town Dyktinna
