or Kulmbach accommodation? Known as the secret capital of beer, Kulmbach is a large city in Bavaria, Germany. The town is famous for the magnificent Plassenburg Castle, which houses the largest pewter-figure museum of the world known as the Tin Soldier. The castle dates back to the 12th century and also showcases Prussian military artifacts and portraits. The museum has over 30,000 tin figures.
The amazing Landscape Museum and the Frederick the Great army museum are other great points of interest in the castle. The Bavarian brewery and bakery museum should also be visited. Kulmbach is home to the Kulmbacher Brewery which is known for its fantastic beer and is one of the largest in the country. The city’s 18th century town hall has a lovely rococo façade and the statues of Prudence as well as the coat of arms. Kulmbach’s ancient bathhouse dates back to the 14th century and is now a restored museum. The 14th century medieval White Tower and the Red Tower from the 13th century are other major sights. The chapel of the Elizabeth Hospital from the Middle Ages stands today as Spitalskirche. The gothic church of St. Peter from the 15th century and the arcades of the late Baroque princess house, Schlosslein should also be visited. The fields fountain, Luitpold Fountain and the Rehurm are other important landmarks in Kulmbach. The romantic Zwernitz Castle and museum is a must see.
Kulmbach has several scenic hiking trails which are ideal to explore the countryside. Mainzusammenfluss is a lovely spot on the main river. For cycling, Kulmbach has a main cycling route, mountain bike tours and guided bicycle tours. The Mainaue is the town’s chief recreational area, situated by a lake where swimming, boating, picnics and nature walks are all available. Kulmbach has a superb outdoor pool surrounded by lush forests and an amazing indoor pool. In winter, you can enjoy the town’s ice rink facility and skiing and ski rides in the mountains. You can also have your fill of Kulmbach’s splendid beer at the vibrant Bierfest Festival in July. The Tango Vivo is an entertaining symphony in October while an annual Spring and Summer Fair is held in the city.
