or LaPlace accommodation? Nicknamed the ‘Andouille Capital of the World’ for its food, LaPlace, Louisiana is a census designated place in St. John the Baptist Parish Louisiana in the United States. It is found along the east bank of the Mississippi River in the New Orleans metro area. Its population in the 2000 census was 27,684.
Located in the southern terminus of Interstate 55 where US 51 and Interstate 10 are joined, LaPlace terminates at the junction with US 61. LaPlace is located twenty five miles from the western part of New Orleans.
LaPlace started as a farming village in the eighteenth century during the Louisiana’s French colonial era. It was named after Basile LaPlace who was an early settler in the area. The city railroad was established in the year 1883. LaPlace was where jazz musicians Kid Ory and Wellman Braud are from. Each October, an Andouille Festival is held in LaPlace. LaPlace is also featured in the Oscar winning movie ‘Monster’s Ball’ which stars Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton.
