or Langley accommodation? Langley is a city in Metro Vancouver. It is located between the Fraser River and the U.S. border. The City of Langley is not to be confused with the larger Township of Langley which surrounds it on the north, east and south. Named after Thomas Langley, a prominent Hudson's Bay Company director, Langley is considered to be the official birthplace of British Columbia. The colony of B.C was originally proclaimed here, at Fort Langley, although the capital moved from here to New Westminster, before finally settling at Victoria on Vancouver Island. The 18th century Langley Centennial Museum is one of the oldest community museums in British Columbia, where you can explore and see pre-contact life among the Coast Salish people, as well as early settler exhibits. You can also visit Fort Langley during the summer and explore the restored building and see the churning butter, blacksmithing and other tasks being performed. Visit Campbell Valley Regional Park, which is one of the best picnic sites in Langley and features activities such as hiking paths, horse riding trails, and cross-country equestrian jumping; and the Downs Equestrian Centre where you can lose yourself in the landscape or walk the trails and listen to nature speaking at every turn. There are many more parks to visit which offers various activities. Langley also offers a variety of wine tours where you can visit and savour the flavours of fruit, fortified and exotic wines on display. It is also the home of a very large annual car show; the "Langley Cruise-In" held each September and also hosts the renowned Arts Alive Festival in August.
