or Liege accommodation? Liege is a charming city sitting in the scenic valley of the Meuse River in Belgium. The town is a major cultural and historical hub. Several buildings of historical importance exist in the city. The lakes by the River Meuse are excellent areas for walking, jogging and picnics and the town is surrounded by a beautiful countryside which makes for adventurous hiking expeditions.
The Museum of Woolen Art is an intriguing cultural complex highlighting the works done by regional painters in the Roman era. The Museum of Wallonian Life, housed in a convent, is an important ethnographic centre while the Museum of Religious Art boasts several interesting pieces. The Curtis Museum is an attractive building done in Mosan Renaissance style and can be found in the magnificent Curtius Palace which is eight stories tall. The 'Perron' at the 'Place du Marché is perhaps the most important monument in the city which comprises the town hall and its historic buildings while the Palace of the Prince-Bishops has a lovely neo-gothic façade. The 18th century villas on Hors Château and En Feronstrée Streets and Saint Barthélémy Church are worth looking at. A fine city view can be had from the watchtower of the old citadel. Christmas Village, one of the oldest and largest in the city, is a popular place of interest. The Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Opera, and Theater de la Place hosts lively cultural performances.
Liege hosts several important festivals each year. The Feast of the Assumption is held on the opposite bank of the river in July and is one of the largest events. Corners Days in June and Heritage Days in September are exciting cultural events. In August, the Festival of Walking offers an excellent opportunity to tour the urban landscape. For entertainment, Le Palace and Kinepolis Cinemas show exciting blockbuster movies while Liege’s numerous sports clubs and ice rink with swimming pool and diving centre provide enjoyable recreational opportunities. Liege has many forms of accommodations available. If you are on a budget then the Youth Hostel Georges Simenon offers reasonably priced rooms in a comfortable setting.
