Lincoln may be the capital and second largest city in Nebraska, but it’s still managed to retain it’s small town feel, and there are some interesting, educational and worthwhile attractions that will keep the visitor busy. One of these sights is the Sunken Gardens on the corner of 27th and Capitol Streets. Built in a depression, and designed to look as though it’s surrounded by mountains, this beautiful park was first opened in the 1930’s, but had a major overhaul in 2004, and is a great destination for families. Music lovers will enjoy the free Jazz in June concerts that are held behind the Sheldon Art Gallery, and when it’s football season, there’s nowhere in the city more busy than the stadium, home of the Nebraska State University Team, the Huskers. Empyrean Ales, a local brewery, offers possibly one of the most popular tours in town, with their Lazlo’s Beer Tour, where visitors are guided through the Haymarket District of Downtown Lincoln, with free food and beer tasting, and the brew master on hand answering questions. Make sure you join the line at around 6PM though, since it is popular, and any later may mean you don’t make it onto the tour! The Embassy Suites Hotel, in the revitalized and redeveloped MarketPlace area of town, is possibly the best hotel to stay in, thanks to it’s proximity alone, and is also a luxurious and beautiful hotel.
