It is considered as the second largest and most important financial center in the Iberian Peninsula. The city was known to the Greeks as Olissipo which is thought to have been taken from the Greek word Ulysses. During the Roman Empire, the city was a prosperous site because of trade with neighboring areas such as Britannia and Rhine. It is also one of the Europeans cities that have come under several rules during early times. At present, Lisbon is a flourishing and a continuing developing city that is still making a name for itself in the European continent.
Lisbon is a historical city that values its traditions and beliefs. Some of the main sights and sound in the city are the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, the Museu do Azulejo, the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, the Lisbon oceanarium, the Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos, the monument of Christ the King, the Parque Eduardo Vii, the Parque Florestral de Monsanto and the Alfama. The city is also host to several festivals such as the Lisbon Triennial, the Moda Lisboa, the Lisbon Gay and the Lesbian Film Festival.
