or Lufkin accommodation? The City of Lufkin in Angelina County of Texas, United States, is also the seat of the county and has a population of 32,709 based on the 2000 Census. The area is also the site of the Columbia Space Shuttle disaster. It is an important city in that it is home to establishments that had entered the national market – Lufkin Industries, Atkinson Candy Company, and Brookshire Brothers, to name a few. It is also home to several headquarters of important government agencies.
Lufkin was founded in 1882. It was named after a Galveston (Texas) Councilman and cotton merchant, Abraham P. Lufkin. He was the father-in-law of the president – Paul Bremond – of the Houston, East and West Texas Railway who was responsible for the creation of the railway and the development of the town.
Today, the city is home to historic attractions such as the Texas Forestry Museum, Museum of East Texas, and Medford Collection of American Western Art as well as natural points of interest such as the Lufkin Azalea Trail, Ellen Trout Park, and Ellen Trout Zoo.
