Madurai is often referred to as the “Sleepless City” owing to the number of cafes, shops and bars which are opened all night. A very vibrant nightlife can be experienced in the city. Several massive festivals take place in the town annually including the annual Bhramhotsavam Meenakshi Tirukkalyanam and Chittirai Festival, the popular Diwali Festival, Thepporchavam and the Santhanakoodu festivals. There is also the annual Dance Festival and the Harvest Festival in January.
