or Maleme accommodation? Maleme is a picturesque historic village by the sea, 16km west of Chania, in North Western Crete, Greece. It is situated in Platanias municipality, in Chania prefecture. It’s populated with obout 700 villagers. It is worth seeing the German military cemetery, made for the more than 4.500 German soldiers and officers who lost their lives on the island during the World War II. The memorial is located just outside Maleme and overlooks the Iron Bridge across the Tavronitis River. Another attraction is aLate Minoan vaulted tomb with interesting architecture, which located near the village, on a hillside, at “Kaykales”.Visitors to the the country areALSO recommended to take a trip about 16 kilometers south of Maleme. There lies the village, Deres, which is worth visiting for its magnificent landscape, numerous chestnut, walnut and olive trees. It also has the river Dekassimiotis crossing the village. The village is a spot of freshness, especially in summer Annother attraction is the Ancient Aptera an Ancient ruins. Annual events includes the local feast (“panighyri”) which takes place on January 17th, in honor of St. Antonios, and series of cultural activities in the memory of the “Battle of Crete” during the World War II take place in May.
