or Managua accommodation? Managua is the capital city of Nicaragua, the largest city in the country, and the second most populous city in Central America. The name Managua literally translates to "where there is a big water extension" for the many lakes and lagoons that surround the city. The city is also nicknamed a city in constant change because of its geographical location. Managua lies on a fault and seismologists predict that the city will continue to experience an earthquake every 50 years or less.
Visitors should not let these predicted earthquakes scare them from visiting Managua for they will be missing many wonderful treasures the city has to offer. When in Managua, visitors should take the time to see the Catedral de Managua which now hold the ruins of the city's old cathedral damaged by the 1972 earthquake. Visitors should also see the Palacio Nacional which is an old national palace that features indigenous Nahuatl people as well as popular arts and cultural exhibitis. A lovely place to see at night when in Managua is the Rotonda Ruben Dario which is a lovely fountain that gets lit up at night and is visible from Tiscapa. Interesting sites to visit include the Tiscapa Lagoon which is a fresh water lagoon in the crater of an extinct volcano and the Huellas de Acahualinca which features preserved footprints of a group of 10 people who walked towards the lake almost 6000 years to do. Recreation also abounds in Managua. Visitors can try out gambling in the many casinos found throughout the city or they can play billiards located downtown or even catch Latin American movies at the theatre near Art Cafe.
