or Manhattan accommodation? Manhattan is a city that lies both on Riley County and Pottawatomie County in the State of Kansas, United States. Although located in two counties, majority of the city is in Riley County where it is the county seat. It is located at the junction of Big Blue River and Kansas River. It is also known for being the “Little Apple” as a play on “Big Apple” New York City where a borough is also named as Manhattan.
The first settlements near the area were named as Canton and Polistra in 1854. These two were joined by another settlement in 1855. Soon, the 3 areas decided to unite to make one settlement that they called as Boston. Then, a steamboat named Hartford ran aground near the settlement. The passengers who were from the Cincinnati-Manhattan Company were invited to join the town. They acquiesced but only after insisting that the area be renamed as Manhattan. It was incorporated in 1857.
Manhattan is home to the largest music festival in the state, Country Stampede Music Festival. It is also the home of Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art and Kansas State University Gardens both in the ground of Kansas State University, Sunset Zoo, and Aggieville.
