The historical Florio wine cellars which are over 200 years old is a major attraction in the city where you can observe the wine making process and get your fill of Marsala wine.
The city has many historical buildings which highlight classic Roman or Greek architecture as well as Baroque style architecture. The Chiesa del Purgatorio is a beautiful building boasting fine Baroque and Rococo architecture. The village of Salemi is also home to an ancient castle of gothic architecture and the San Michele statue. San Giovanni and San Pietro are important religious sites. There is also the 18th century cathedral (Duomo) built by the Normans in Doric style. The Tapestry Museum highlights beautiful 16th century tapestry and the Archaeological Museum exhibits Punic finds from the Isle of Mozia and other places.
The peculiar and amazing Saltworks of Trapani and Paceco along the coast should not be missed. It is a major wildlife reserve with nearly 200 species of birds, including flamingos, storks, cranes, and herons. From here, radiant sunsets can be observed. The Villa Cavallotti is an excellent park for family activities, picnics or relaxation. Marsala has a number of Italian restaurants offering sumptuous Italian cuisines. Many shops are also in the town. November is the time for the Annual Accordion International Festival while Editing the Future is an entertaining media art event in October. There is also the annual Rome Film Festival, Venice Marathon and the Eurochocolate event which features a delicious week of chocolate antics, music and competitions.
