or Mechanicsburg accommodation? Mechanicsburg is named after the settlement of mechanics who lived in Pennsylvania and made a living fixing wagons in the early 1800s. The borough is 13 kilometers west of Harrisburg.
There are mainly six historic sites that render images of old Mechanicsburg. The Stationmaster’s House, built for the Cumberland Valley Railroad in 1863. The restored building is characteristic of the middle-class homes in Pennsylvania during that period. The Passenger Station nearby was built in 1866. Both are remnants of the life along the mighty railways of America. The Freight Station now houses a museum that is used as a venue for cultural events in Mechanicsburg. Washington Street Station is a simple cottage house where the switchman stayed during his duty.
The oldest building in the borough is believed to be Frankeburger Tavern, which served as a simple bed and breakfast inn for cattle drovers. Lastly, the Union Church is the oldest public structure in Mechanicsburg.
Golfing is also offered at the borough’s Liberty Forge Golf Course, where an arboretum is also located. There are a variety of hotels in Mechanicsburg and Harrisburg areas.
