The county seat of Custer County, Montana, Miles City started out as a makeshift village known as “Milestown.” The town started to progress with increasing influx of speculators who brought thousands of cattle in the area which needed fattening before they could be transported to Chicago. Rapid growth occurred in the city in the 1920s and the 1930s. Prior to the arrival of the ranches, however, the area that would soon be the city used to be a military fort called Fort Keogh.
Although there are a few organized activities in Miles City there are a number of interesting places to visit if ever you find yourself here. There are the Range Riders Museum, City Park, the Spotted Eagle Recreational Area and the golf course at the edge of the city. The town also has a number of food establishments.
For accommodations, there is the Airport Inn, located on the Jordan Road which has a great view of the town and serves the best food in town.
