Located beside the north boundary of Cleveland, Moore is the second biggest city in the county and the ninth largest in the state.

A mere twenty minutes form downtown Oklahoma City, Moore is also nearby the Will Rogers World Airport, The University of Oklahoma, The tinker Air Force Base, the Federal Aviation Administration Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center and thousands of industries, businesses, public and private schools and cultural as well as leisure facilities.

Moore was founded in the Land Run of 1889. Early settlers arrived on train, wagons, horseback and on foot. According to local history, Moore’s original name was Verbeck which was designated by the railroad company. However, a railroad employee named Al Moore who was allegedly a brakeman or a conductor, lived at the camp in a boxcar and had a hard time receiving his mail. Because of this, he painted his name ‘Moore” on a board and nailed it on the boxcar. When the post master was finally appointed, he continually called the settlement Moore. Upon the town’s incorporation in 1962, the name of Moore was legalized.
