Also, the Memory Lane Motorsports and Historic Automotive Museum and the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall are both located in town; the latter actually serves as the official visitors’ center of the town.

It was in 1856 that Mooresville came into being – right about the time that the need for a place for cotton weighing station for a railroad that will soon be set up through the area. The owners of the land – John Franklin Moore and Rachel Summrow Moore – donated the portion of the land for the weighing scale plus enough space for people to create their homes on. Soon, the area became known as Moore’s Siding.

Moore’s Siding was incorporated as Mooresville in 1873. The town soon saw a slow but steady growth that continued even until the next century. Then, when the nearby city of Charlotte began to see fast economic growth and population explosion, Mooresville became a suburban bedroom community for those working in the city.
