Japan)
or Nagasaki accommodation? Nagasaki is the capital of Nagasaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, Japan, and can be reached by plane, train, sleeper train and bus. Streetcars and buses are the ways to get around Nagasaki, or, if you’re feeling adventurous, a long, slow walk. Apart from all the museums, monuments, shrines and gardens to see, there is also O-Kunchi, the city’s biggest and one of Japan more popular festivals, featuring choreographed routines, with giant cumbersome floats, sake and a general feeling of celebration. This festival takes place in early October. Youme Saito, located next to Dejima Wharf in downtown Nagasaki, is a multi-storey shopping plaza offering a range of stores and services, including a Starbucks, travel agent, a grocery store in the basement and a huge selection of clothing stores. Amu Plaza, at the Nagasaki station tram stop, has a multitude of stores in and around the plaza, including a bookshop and an arcade. There are 3 stories of shopping extravaganza inside the plaza, offering clothing, books and electronics. The bottom floor of the building has several restaurants, as well as an area where Nagasaki-related knick-knacks and souvenirs can be bought. Champon is Nagasaki’s most famous dish, which consists of noodles in a pork-based broth, filled with vegetables, bacon, shrimp, squid and scallops. Saraudon, another popular dish, combines the meat seafood, vegetables and sauce of champon, but is served on a plate over crispy, dry-fried noodles. To experience these and other delicious street food, it is best to head out to Chinatown. The oldest Western-style restaurant in Japan, the Tenjin Coffee House, is at the top of Glover Garden and is worth a visit to see the impressive Dutch coffee-making equipment. - Browse the Nagasaki Map or compare Nagasaki accommodation from Hotels, Motels, B&Bs,
