Nykoping Accommodation

Searching for hotels in Nykoping (Sweden) or Nykoping accommodation?  This small town is situated on the coast, is an hour’s drive from Stockholm, and is the capital of Södermanland County. It has roots in the medieval times and two castles are still standing to take you back in time. Nyköpingshus Castle dates back to the 12th century and is partly in ruins. It is famous for the Nyköping Banquet that took place in 1317 where King Birger had both his brothers captured while they were asleep and left them to starve to death in the castle’s dungeon. The other castle Nynäs Castle but unfortunately no ghastly murder was recorded here.

Everything is within walking distance and there are a lot of quant little shop scattered about everywhere selling anything from suits to fruit and candles. There are also a few designer shops and art galleries if you want to splurge a bit. Take a break from the shopping and stop by any of the restaurants and café’, mostly outdoors, and treat yourself to anything from freshly grilled herring burgers to Indian cuisine. At night, there are a few lively pubs and clubs and two favorites seem to be Fik@ and Rockbaren.

A little bit out of town, you can go rock climbing, canoeing, swimming, cycling, or walking along Näckrosleden and dont forget to take a picnic basket with you. As for accommodation there are backpackers and camping facilities for budget tourists as well as youth hostels and a few 3 star hotels for the rest.
