or Oakham accommodation? The town of Oakham is located in Rutland County, England. It is a small town, with just under ten thousand residents, and it lies to the west of one of the largest manmade lakes in Europe, the Rutland Water. Some of the historic attractions in Oakham are the Castle, and the All Saints Church, which dates back to the 14th century. The church remains intact, but parts of the castle have been ruined over the centuries. The 12th century Great Hall, however, remains intact, and as late as the 1970’s, was in use as an administrative building. Another interesting sight in the town is the horseshoes. According to local custom, any visiting royalty or dignitaries had to pay a forfeit, in the form of a horseshoe, to the town.
