The most famous frescoed house is Pilatushaus on Ludwig-Thoma-Strasse, which today is a home to artisans and depicts a fresco not on a fairy tale, but on a depiction of Jesus Christ coming before Pilate -- hence the name of the house, Pilatushaus. Go an excursion to Berg Laber or Berg Kolben Mountain via an enclosed cable-gondola which also offers a panoramic alpine view. Oberammergau also offers activities like tennis, miniature golf, cycling, swimming, hang-gliding and canoeing. The recreation center, Wellenberg, with open-air pools, fountains, sauna, solarium, and restaurant, is one of the Alps' most beautiful.

Oberammergau is host to several annual events such as Brez'n angeln and Passion Play. Events in nearby Munich include Jazz Festival and Beer Festival.
