or Orange Park accommodation? Orange Park is a town and suburb of Jacksonville in Clay County Florida. Located just a few miles south of the city along the banks of St. John’s River, Orange Park was named such because of the large orange growing industry proposed for the area. However, the rows of orange groves never materialized because of the Great Freeze which destroyed all crops in 1894 and 1895. The crops never came back to the area after the Great Freeze. Orange Park lies next to Argyle on the west, Fleming Island and Middleburg on the South, and Mandarin on the east bank of St. John’s River.
The area was founded in 1877 by the Florida Winter Home and Improvement Company. Later on plans for making the area a small retreat and a farming community materialized after the company purchased more land at the McIntosh plantation in Laurel Grove.
Orange Park used to be the home of the Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center, established by Robert Yerkes and Yale University in 1930. This was the first laboratory in the US built for the study of non-human primates. The center was later transferred to Atlanta, Georgia. - Browse the Orange Park Map or compare Orange Park accommodation from Hotels, Motels, B&Bs,
