or Owensboro accommodation? Owensboro was named after Colonel Abraham Owen; the county seat of Daviess County, this city is the third largest in the State of Kentucky, United States. It is the BBQ Capital of the World and holds the annual International BBQ Festival in May. Aside from BBQ, the city also holds the Annual Owensboro Pumpkinfest in September. It is also the home of the Men Who Cook – Celebrity Chefs Gala & Auction annual fundraising event.
The area was first settled by William “Bill” Smeathers in the 1790s. It was first named as Owensborough in honor of its founding father but this was shortened in 1893. The city was also home to one of the most influential wagon company – the Owensboro Wagon Company – in the country beginning in 1884.
Today, Owensboro is a popular destination among tourists with its various points of interest such as the Ben Hawes State Park, Western Kentucky Botanical Garden, International Bluegrass Music Museum, and the Largest Sassafras Tree. Other tourists come to visit if only to possibly catch a glimpse of one of Owensboro’s most famous sons – actor Johnny Depp.
