or Peniche accommodation? The city of Peniche is a small one, on the coast of Portugal. In fact, while nearly thirty thousand people call the greater municipal area home, only about fifteen and a half thousand reside in the city itself. Peniche is famous for its beaches, which are long, sandy, and sometimes a little windy. This wind makes them perfect for water sports however, and surfers, windsurfers and kite surfers will feel right at home here. The waves are so good here in fact, that the area has been dubbed ‘Europe’s Pipeline’ by surfing enthusiasts. Another big attraction in the area is located off the coast of Peniche, where you will find the Berlanga’s Islands, which were one of the world’s first protected areas, and are still a reserve today. In the summer, there is a ferry that will take you across to see the area. Also off the coast is Nao dos Corvos, which is an isolated rock formation in the ocean, and which is a local landmark. Fishing is a major industry in Peniche to this day, and the harbor still works as a fishing port, as well as being an attraction for visitors.
