or Poitiers accommodation? Poitiers is the beautiful capital of the Poitou-Charentes region of central France. The city has a lot of attractions, among which are activities such as canoeing, kayaking, and boat trips. There are also horse riding opportunities, golf cubs which are easy to join and a fabulous ice rink for skating. Swimming pools can also be accessed through fitness centers and clubs as well as climbing wall clubs.
Poitiers is well known for the splendid architecture typical of its buildings from the Romanesque and late medieval eras. The Baptistery of St. John is a magnificent 4th century cathedral which is one of the oldest Christian buildings in the city and features a sparkling baptismal pool on the floor. There is also an interesting museum on the grounds. St. Pierre Cathedral is another ancient building which offers pleasant organ performances. The popular Church of Notre Dame should not be missed. Here you may be entertained by light shows after dark on some evenings. The 12th century Eglise Saint-Hilaire-le-Grand boasts a fine Romanesque chancel and an imposing structure and height. Saint Croix Museum and Chez Manuel Museum with interesting artifacts such as old cars, ancient military equipments, gramophones and old tractors are only two of Poitier’s fine museums. The Promenade du Pre l’Abbessesse is worth a trip.
The Futurosope park located a few minutes from the city, is one of Poitier’s main attractions. It is a technologically advanced area with visual communication technology in modernistic buildings and features intriguing futuristic advances such as robots and even dinosaurs. The Ile Jouteau Outdoor Recreation Centre is a must see. The Blossac Park and Poitier’s Botanical Gardens are excellent family and recreational spots. The City Centre with its beautiful cafes, tasty restaurants and nightclubs provide a nice way to amuse oneself while in the city. Poitiers’ popular festivals include the enjoyable World Passages Literature Festival in October for one week. For entertainment, cinemas such as Cinema Mega CGR offer an exciting line up of shows.
Poitiers has many reasonably priced and comfortable hotels such as La Roseraie, La Bergerie and the three star Manoir de Beauvoir.
