Development began with the purchase of the River Park Development by the General Development Corporation which led to the construction of the bridge that brought traffic over the St. Lucie River and into St. Lucie.
The city is home to various attractions; among them are parks, botanical gardens, gold courses and other forms of recreation to entertain locals and guests alike.
Parks in St. Lucie include Sportsman Park, Sportsman Park West, Veterans Memorial, Rotary Park, Jaycee Park, Kiwanis Park, among others. Tourists can also visit the city botanical garden, known as the Garden, is located on Westmoreland Boulevard and is planned to contain paved paths, gardens, and an area for wedding receptions and other outdoor gatherings.
