or Porto accommodation? Porto (Portugal) is situated at the mouth of the Rio Douro. It's a hilly city of narrow medieval alleyways, extravagant baroque churches, prim little squares, and wide boulevards lined with stately beaux-arts edifices. All too rarely, it's a city that has kept its old traditions.
Of perhaps most interest to the tourist is Porto’s historic Ribeira district. This is a Enesco World Heritage zone of winding lanes, zigzagging staircases and tiled churches. Specific locations of interest are the Casa da Musica concert hall, the Solar Vinho do Porto (a great location for sampling port), the Museu de Arte Contemporanea, the Sao Francisco Church (Igreja de S Francisco), and the Ponte D. Luis (a bridge built in 1886 which links Porto and Gaia). A must-do is taking a cruise on the River Douro as far as Pinhão -- the landscape is stunning. A great, quirky attraction in Porto is the Museu de David, which is a museum that traces the origins of people called David (!). It explains the ubiquitous and prevalent use of this name for persons of all origins and character. Finally, tourists must do to the Livraria Lello for a coffee. Livraria Lello is an old bookshop near Praça dos Leões that is voted as one of the most beautiful bookshops in Europe.
