Prince Rupert is situated on Kaien Island about 480 miles north of Vancouver and just north of the mouth of Skeena River. The city is located along the island's northwestern shore, fronting on Prince Rupert Harbour. Take a stroll along the beautiful waterfront in Cow Bay and stop at one of the intimate 30’s cafes which are housed in restored buildings or take a tour at the Archaeology Harbour and have a look at 10,000 years of archaeological sites along the shore. Other places of interest are the Northern British Columbia Museum, the Firehall Museum, Khutzeymateen/K'tzin-a-diin Grizzly Sanctuary which is the only area in Canada that protects the silver-tipped bears; and Oliver Lake, which is home to the exotic 125 year old Bonsai trees.
The sea fest is held on the second weekend in June and is Prince Rupert's major celebration which includes four days of parades, dances, bathtub races, flyovers, competitions and general fun and nonbsense. The Prince Rupert also has a lot of bed and breakfast and hotel in the area.
