The first European settlers in the area arrived on a fleet of canoes in 1699 in an expedition was led by Jonathan Paradise. The settlers found the land perfect for serving as a trading post and named it ‘Racine,’ which is French for ‘Root’.
Racine is also popular for its Danish pastries especially a certain creation called ‘kringle’ of which has been featured in the Food Network. It is also a well-known city for its large and extravagant after-party prom celebrations, of which students from all schools participate in after the prom and which was named by USA Today as one of the “10 great places to fly your patriotic colors.”
