or Rapallo accommodation? Rapallo is an Italian city in the province of Genoa, Liguria, which forms a part of the Tigullio Gulf. Exciting sailing regattas are held in this gulf during the summer months. The town has cultural sights highlighting intriguing facts about the Rapallo’s history. The town has a few natural beaches but artificial lidos are the main swimming areas.
The 16th century Castle on the Sea built to counteract pirate attacks, with its 17th century chapel dedicated to St. Cajetan is a prominent site in the town. The Castello di Punta Pagana is another important historical site. The only remaining ruins of the town walls can be seen at the Porta delle Saline. The Basilica of Sts. Gervasius and Protasius dates back to the 12th century and features an unusual bell tower. The 16th century church of St. Francis of Assisi also lies in the city. Our Lady of Montallegro Sanctuary from the same period and the ruined Monastery of Valle Christi from the 13th century make for interesting sight seeing. Gaffoglio Museum has impressive collections of gold, china and ivory. The Lace Museum is home to reputable collections of lace from the 16th to 20th centuries. Cable car rides are available to the hill on Montallegro where the 16th century Sanctuary of Montallegro, dedicated to the Virgin, lies.
Lungomare Vittorio Veneto is a beautiful seaside promenade lined with palm trees around the harbor which has most of the town’s restaurants, bars and hotels. It is also the venue for quite a few summer concerts. July sees the entertaining Festa dell' Apparizione della Vergine which sees a parade of people marching to the church on the hill. Weekend festivals, outdoor markets and concerts are common in the town especially during the summer.
