The area was thought to have been inhabited by the Nomlaki people before they were extinguished one by one by malaria. European explorers soon came to the area led by Spanish explorer Luis Argello in 1821. Red Bluff was incorporated in 1876. Caucasians make up the majority of inhabitants in the area, followed by blacks and Native Americans.
Attractions in town include the annual Red Bluff Round-up which was started in 1926 and has now become one of the west’s largest rodeos. Other attractions include the Balloon Festival in Tehama County and various community activities such as lunches for a cause, swinging squares dancing club, community dances, beading classes and the like. The Cone and Kimball Plaza Clock tower is also another distinctive landmark in Red Bluff.
