Remscheid Accommodation

It is the third largest municipality after Wuppertal and Solingen, in Bergisches Land, being located on the northern border of the region, on southern side of the Ruhr area.

Remscheid has interesting slate houses, one of which (Haus Cleff) serves well as the local museum. The Lennep district, the birthplace of Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, the discoverer of X-rays, is in the German Röntgen Museum. The city also boasts a tool museum and a bunch of performing-arts venues. To the southeasterly of the Alt River is Germany’s oldest dam for supplying drinking water.

Main sights to view are the Müngstener Brücke which is a railroad bridge crossing a valley and linking Remscheid with the neighbouring town of Solingen. It is 107m above the earth, making it the highest railroad bridge in Germany. It was built in 1897 and originally named the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Brücke after Wilhelm (whose 100th birthday would have been in 1897).

The Eschbachtalsperre, the first dam built in Germany for the supply of drinking water is located here. It was built in 1891. Town Hall of Remscheid and the ancient city of the borough Lennep consist of 116 houses from 1756.
