or Richmond (Indiana) accommodation? Richmond is a city in Wayne Township of Wayne County in the State of Indiana, United States; the city is the seat of Wayne County. Part of the city, Richmond Municipal Airport, is separated from the rest of the city and is located in Boston Township. The city is sometimes called the “Cradle of Recorded Jazz” as it was here that the first jazz records were created in the Gennett Records Studio of the Starr Piano Company. The city is also a two-time recipient of the All-America City Award.
The area that would soon become Richmond was first settled by Quaker families in 1806. Aside from being known for its recorded jazz, the city is also known for being the smallest city in the US with both a symphony orchestra (Richmond Symphony Orchestra) and a professional opera company (Whitewater Opera). There was also a period when Richmond was known as the “Lawnmower Capital” as there were several lawnmower manufacturers in the city.
Richmond takes pride of its historic districts and other points of interest – Richmond Railroad Station Historic District, East Main Street-Glen Miller Park Historic District, Hayes Arboretum, Indiana Football Hall of Fame, Old Richmond Historic District, and the Madonna of the Trail statue at Glen Miller Park are just some of the examples.
