Data from the Census of 2000 show that there are 48,129 residents in the city.

Roseville began as farming community. In 1837, when Michigan became a state, the community was included in Orange Township which would later become Erin Township. The area was soon connected to Mount Clemens and Detroit. The Erin Township Hall was built inside the community in 1886. By 1926, the area was incorporated as a village. It was incorporated as a city in 1958.
