or Ross-on-Wye accommodation? The small town of Ross-on-Wye is located in the Herefordshire area of England, and is on the banks of the River Wye, from which it draws its name. While it is an important market town, it is relatively small, with a population of around eleven thousand people. Of course, being a market town, the Thursday and Saturday Markets, held in the sandstone Market House, which is itself a historic monument, having been built in the 17th century, are popular choices for visitors. Another landmark of historic significance is the parish church of St. Mary’s, which is over seven hundred years old. The church itself also holds the tombs of several prominent locals from throughout the town’s long history. The Wilton Castle ruins lie just outside of the city, and these have been recently restored, and opened to the public. There is also a memorial to a less illustrious time in the town, in the form of the Plague Cross, which was erected in 1637 as a memorial to the hundreds of people who died in the town of the plague that year. - Browse the Ross-on-Wye Map or compare Ross-on-Wye accommodation from Hotels, Motels, B&Bs,
