or Ruthin accommodation? The town of Ruthin is located in Denbighshire, Wales, in the region known as the Vale of Clwyd. It started out as a Celtic settlement, and was later occupied by the Romans, until eventually, the construction of the now famous landmark, Ruthin Castle, began in 1277. Aside from the castle, one of the most visited historic sites in Ruthin is, oddly enough, the Ruthin Gaol. It only ceased housing prisoners in 1916, but it has a long and interesting history before and after that time, and is now a museum. The town is also home to what is believed to be the oldest townhouse still standing in Wales – Nantclwyd y Dre, which was built in 1435 by a local merchant. The house is now a museum, with each of the seven rooms having been restored to represent a period in its long history. The courthouse, built in 1401, and the clock tower on St Peter’s Square are just two other examples of historic sites in a town that is overflowing with history. At one stage, Ruthin was reputed to have a pub for every week of the year, but that has changed, although there are eleven that remain. There are also shops, hotels and most of the other modern conveniences one could ask for. - Browse the Ruthin Map or compare Ruthin accommodation from Hotels, Motels, B&Bs,
