or Saint-Omer accommodation? Saint-Omer is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in France. It is sited 68km west-northwest of Lille. The area is named after Saint Audomar; he brought Christianity religion to the area. Saint Omer is the ideal place for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts as it is bordered by the lovely and extensive Audomarois marshes that provide a safe environment for many unusual and delightful species of wildlife. Omer the bishop of Thérouanne formed the monastery of St. Bertin in the 7th century. The church had a huge statue of Christ seated between St John and the Virgin Mary and plenty ex-votos. Childeric III spent his last days at St. Bertin, which was built between the 13th and 15th centuries, had some remains of lofty tower and arches, which serve to enhance the public garden. Also built of St. Bertin material is the town hall, which contains a picture gallery, compilation of records and a theatre and is also worth a visit. There are also a number of houses from the 16th and 17th centuries for example, Hotel Colbert which was once a royal lodge but is now an archaeology museum; the military hospital which is remembered for occupying the famous college opened by the English Jesuits in 1593, and is now component of the Lycée Alexandre Ribot; and the ancient episcopal palace attach to the cathedral is now used as a courthouse. You can also take a boat trip through the waterways to enjoy the scenic view of the area.
