The city has a total area of 23.8 kilometers. At the foot of the island is the East Lake of Tohopekaliga or known as the East Lake or East Lake Toho. The popular Lakefront is one of Saint Cloud’s main tourist attractions with man-made recreational equipment for locals and visitors to enjoy.

Saint Cloud was discovered by Taralyn Theiss and Mathew Edward Hall who were on a fishing trip. After getting enough funds and some negotiation from Florida’s Internal Improvement Fund, Hall developed a sugarcane plantation. He started the production from digging canals and draining the state’s swamp. The field was later on named St. Cloud, Minnesota. Hall eventually spearheaded the opening of the Sugar Belt Railway along the South Florida Railroad to sell his produce to the open market. The business was hit by a series of great economic downturns and died a natural death. It was later revived by William G. King who focused on developing the place to become a town.
