The Rooms at Fort Townshend is a stunning cultural centre that preserves and protects thee province’s history and heritage. Cape Spear National Historical Site should be visited. Signal Hill which overlooks the city is home to the 1897 Cabot Tower erected in memory of Newfoundland’s discovery by John Talbot and is a Canadian Historic Site. The Art Emporium is a great art gallery and the Arts and Culture Centre together with the Spirit of Newfoundland Productions are theatres offering lively cultural performances. Many ancient churches like the Basilica of St. John’s the Baptist from the 1800s can also be found in the city.
St. John’s is never short on things to do. With over 400 local restaurants, clubs and bars and George Street’s numerous festivals, an exciting time is guaranteed in the city. Other enjoyable events include St. John’s Day celebrations with concerts and historic characters, Canada Day Celebration every July 1 at Signal Hill and Royal St. John’s Regatta. For recreation, you can check out the Fluvarium which is the only one in North America where brook and brown trout can be seen. The humpback and minke whales by the sea provide amusement for everyone. For a leisurely drive around town, Killick and Admiral Coast are scenic routes to take.
