or San Roque accommodation? The town and municipality of San Roque are located in the south of Spain, in the area of Cadiz. It lies on the Bay of Gibraltar, near the Gibraltar Peninsula, and is home to just over twenty five thousand people. One of the main attractions around San Roque is the ruined town of Carteia, which has been around since around three hundred BC. This ruin indicates how long the area was inhabited before the current town was established in the 18th century. In fact, it has been occupied by Romans, the Byzantine Empire and several other civilizations over the years. Being so near to Gibraltar, which was the subject of warfare in the area, it is no wonder that the town has been attacked on several occasions, although these days, there’s no bloodshed, only a remembrance of the time when Gibraltar was Spanish. The New Saint Roch Chapel, which was built in the early 19th century, is one of the local sights worth seeing, as is the governor’s palace, and a few other sites.
