or Sandpoint accommodation? Incorporated as an Idaho city in 1898, Sandpoint became the county seat of Bonner County. The very first inhabitants in the area were the Salish Tribes who encamped on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille.
Sandpoint is the host city to the Lakedance International Film Festival, which is the first film festival to ever be held in Northern Idaho. Celebrated in the city’s Panida Theatre, it is one of the largest film festivals in the Northwestern United States. Two particular attractions that have contributed to the popularity of the city are the Lake Pend Oreille and Schweitzer Mountains. Lake Pend Oreille is the perfect place for recreational activities such as water skiing, swimming, fishing, boating, horse-riding, hiking and hunting. The panoramic views from the Schweitzer Mountains, on the other hand, are awe-inspiring and popular with students of photography.
Other interesting sites in Sandpoint are the Round Lake State Park, and museums like the Bonner County Historical Museum and Memorial Park Historical Museum. Events that are held annually in Sandpoint include the Bonner County Fair, Fall Fest Outdoor Music Festival, Festival at Sandpoint, Timberfest, Winter Carnival, and Schweitzer Bluegrass Festival.
