You can also explore Saumur’s underground cultivation of mushrooms. The Abbaye de Fontrevraud is the resting place of historical figures such as Eleanor of Aquitane and King Henry II. An intriguing tank exhibition can be seen at the Musee des Blindes.
The regional park Loire-Anjou-Touraine has a fine environment perfect for picnicking and relaxation. Here there are a number of historical sites, wildlife habitats, lakes and horse riding opportunities. Basketball and horse riding are the main activities here. Nature walks can be taken along scenic routes in the town. Saumur is the venue for exciting events such as Fete de rue St Nicholas in May, the Music Fete in June and Bastille Day in July with its many fireworks and light displays.
