Searching for hotels in Sfax (Tunisia) or Sfax accommodation?  The city of Sfax is the modern capital of the Sfax governate, but was founded in the 9th century, on the ruins of the ancient cities of Thaenae and Taparura. It is the second most populous city in Tunisia, with over three hundred thousand residents, and an important commercial, industrial and tourism area.
In spite of its long history, the city has been heavily influenced by the French, and signs of that influence are still visible today. The Place De La Republique and pedestrianized streets like Rue Hedi Chaker are just two of the areas where you can clearly see this influence on the city.
Like most of the cities in Tunisia, souks or markets are another big attraction in Sfax, and shopping for souvenirs and gifts at one of the street markets is a great way to find bargains, and mingle with the locals. Museums like the Musee Dar Jallouli are another big attraction, and a great way to learn more about local culture and history. Historic buildings and sites like the Casbah and Medina are two more ways to learn more about the city, and are must-sees when in Sfax.
While you would be hard pressed to find large hotel chains in Sfax, there are plenty of fine local establishments to choose from, as well as restaurants and other entertainments.
