Sidney is a Canadian urban community in the province of Nova Scotia. It is situated on the east coast of Cape Breton Island and is administratively part of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
Although the town lacks charm, efforts have been made to reinvigorate the waterfront at the north end, downtown between Amelia streets and Prince and around the Esplanade. Despite all of that this district is one to travel to, landmarks like St Patrick's church one of Sydney's oldest buildings and is also home to a local historic museum.
The first Anglican minister lived in the Cossit House which was built in1787. Sydney has numerous attractions like the Mineral World, Aviation Museum, Experimental Farm and Research Station, Butchart Gardens, Sidney Marine Mammal and Historical Museum, Institute of Ocean Sciences, Sidney Spit Marine Park, Victoria Butterfly Gardens, historic artifacts society site in inner Saanich, the Cabot Trail, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Bras d'Or Lake and the world's largest fiddle.
During the month of July the Sydney days celebration is held; in August gigantic picnic and in September there is the Jazz festival.
Travelers to the Sydney area will enjoy a range of tourist lodging and services. Close to the Sidney’s Spit Marine Park, facilities are available which allows camping, boat launch, picnic and hiking trails along the beach.
