The temples are remnants of the Khmer Empire, which existed between the 9th and 15th centuries A.D.
Aside from Angkor, tourists in Siem Reap can also go to Prek Toal, which is a water bird sanctuary, the flooded forest of Kompong Phhluk, Bar Street (centre of the nightlife in Siem Reap), and do a cooking course in Khmer cuisine. Siem Reap is riddled with great restaurants, ritzy hotels, and sumptuous spas.
