The month of July may be one of the best times to visit Silverdale when the Whaling Days are held at the waterfront. The event is a Kitsap County tradition which has been a practice for 37 years to date and is scheduled on the last weekend of July. The event starts on Friday with fireworks display at 10 p.m. It is followed the next day by a breakfast affair, a street festival, canoe races, and numerous contests where families participate. The festival ends with another set of fireworks display on Sunday evening.

Visitors may also visit the Anderson Landing Nature Preserve for outdoor recreational activities. With a variety of wildlife species in the reserve’s estuaries, streams and wetlands, hiking and bird watching would be a worthwhile experience. The preserve is also the location of the Little Anderson Creek and the Hood Canal.
