or Skipton accommodation? The town of Skipton, or Skipton-in-Craven as it is also known, is located in the county of Craven, in Yorkshire, England. It is well known as the Gateway to the Dales, thanks to its proximity to the Yorkshire Dales, and has been around since before the 11th century, since it is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Being such an old town, there are several sites and events that are historic in the town of Skipton. One of these is the Skipton Charity Gala, which happens every second Saturday in June, and has done since 1901. There is also the Craven Museum and Art Gallery, which is housed in the town hall to explore, if you are interested in history. Another must see for history lovers is Skipton Castle, which is a Norman Castle, built over nine hundred years ago, and is one of the best preserved castles in England at the moment. When it comes to nightlife and entertainment, there are several pubs to visit, as well as two nightclubs. As of 2002, Skipton is also home to the Copper Dragon Brewery, so whether you sample it at a pub or at one of the many restaurants that are located in and around town, make sure you try the local brew.
