or Skovde accommodation? This town is situated between two lakes, Lake Vänern and Lake Vättern on the east side of the Billingen Hills and is one of the oldest settlements in the country as it traces back its history back to the medieval times.
Unfortunately nothing remains of those times because a fire in 1759 destroyed the entire city. If you find yourself here during March make sure to visit Lake Hornborga. It is the time when around 10 000 cranes start arriving here to rest and feed before their flight to grounds further north and every year this is a sight that many tourist come from far to see. There is a beautiful 18 hole golf course and a couple of hiking trails as well as a recreation area where they offer activities such as running, mountain biking, fresh water fishing, and a 50 meter pool for swimming.
During the winter they provide ski tracks with amazing downhill skiing with lifts to take you back up. There is also a special slope for snowboarding and a sledging slope and ice rink behind the hotel.
Skovde boasts with a breathtaking nature reserve area (6 reserves in one sort of thing) which has a great variety of landscapes where meadows mix with lakes and forests and where grazing fields meet grave fields where ancient corpses are buried. There are walking trails a plenty through streams and valleys and along caves so make a day of it to enjoy all of nature’s splendor.
In the town itself it is a pleasure to just walk around and take in the charm and there are quite a few superb restaurants and café’s and pubs to sit down and enjoy a good meal and a ice cold drink. The locals love their food and every year at the end of October around 40 000 visitors come and take part in a two day food festival where the restaurants and café’s and pubs take their business to the streets.
