or Soufriere accommodation? The fishing town of Soufriere is the oldest settlement and used to be the capital of the island country of Saint Lucia. Located on the southwest coast of the island, Soufriere is an emerging tourist destination in the West Indies.
The main attractions in Soufriere are the twin volcanic plugs of Gros Piton and Petit Peton that rise from the coral reefs in its south. Called The Pitons, these two natural towers rise are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Soufriere Estate is also another must-see attraction in town. It is home to the tropical gardens of Diamond Botanical Gardens, the Diamond Waterfall that is colored by mineral deposits and mineral hot spring baths that are famed for their curative effect. Also found in the site is the Soufriere Drive-In Volcano or Sulphur Springs, the only drive-in volcano in the world, which enormous crater heats pools of water and vents out sulphur.
Being a resort town in the Caribbean, Soufriere also boats of its long stretch of beaches made up of dark sandy shores and pristine turquoise waters. A favorite pastime by tourists in the shore includes day or sunset cruises out to the Caribbean Sea and scuba diving or snorkeling in the nearby Anse Chastanet Beach.
