or St. Gallen accommodation? St. Gallen is located in a valley 700m above sealevel and is a large urban area. It is nicely situated between Lake Constance and the Appenzell Alps mountain range that makes for a spectacular natural setting. Its main tourist attraction, the Abbey of St. Gall has earned itself a place on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Its world renown library boasts with medieval books dating back from the 9th century and the beautiful Baroque architecture and Rococo interior itself is enough reason to want to go there. Many of the houses and buildings are from the 16th and 18th century and are adorned with wrought-iron signs and carved wooden oriel windows so to just walk along the pleasant alleys and narrow streets browsing for a museum or a coffee shop is a lovely way to spend a day.
Some of St.Gallen’s restaurants are well worth a visit. To mention a few there is Am Gallusplatz, the city’s best restaurant, known for its superb french cuisine and its not-so-low prices. Seeger is a popular choice with reasonable prices and good food in a relaxing atmosphere on leather sofas inside and cozy tables outside. There is not much of a nightlife for visitors and tourists often hop on a train to Zurich if they need some midnight entertainment. Seeger hosts dance parties on Friday and Saterday nights though.
As for sightseeing, there are more than enough museums in St Gallen so take a map with you and enjoy the pedestrian-only streets of the old town. You can even sample some quality Swiss chocolate at Schoggiland, a chocolate factory open to the public. Shops are aplenty and they sell anything from souvenirs to designer clothing and jewellery.
Most of the hotels are 3 stars and up so if you’re looking for style and comfort you can’t go wrong with choises like Best Western Hotel Speer or the Swiss Quality Hotel Ekkehart.
